Understanding Solid Epoxy Flooring
Solid Epoxy Flooring is made by applying a colored epoxy base and topcoat to match the color of your choice. The process starts with preparing the floor and goes through a series of steps, including crack repair, epoxy water vapor barrier application, decorative coat, and Polyaspartic topcoat. It is different from metallic epoxy flooring, which incorporates metallic pigments and swirls, and flake epoxy, which uses chips or flakes of pigments, as it is one cohesive color.
Advantages of Solid Epoxy Flooring
Solid epoxy flooring is an excellent all-around choice for many applications due to its timeless appearance, durability, non-slip properties, and ease of maintenance.
Timeless Appearance
While some other types of epoxy can be striking, solid epoxy has a timeless appearance that you won’t get sick of as trends change.
Non-Slip Surface
You can rest assured you won’t have to worry about slips and falls with solid epoxy floors. You can even test the slip value so you can ensure it is exactly where you want it.
Easy Maintenance
Since solid epoxy is resistant to abrasion, chemicals, and moisture, it makes for a simplified cleaning routine. No more swiffering, mopping, or scrubbing day in and day out.
Durable
Solid epoxy floors are extremely durable and long-lasting. They are resistant to impact, chemicals, and moisture, making them a top choice for high-traffic areas - whether that be your kids running around or heavy industrial machinery.
Solid Metallic Flooring Colors
Solid flooring is anything but boring. Each shade is vibrant and eye-catching, whether it be a classic dark gray, true white, or vivid greens and blues. View some of our most popular solid colors below.

The Process of Installing Solid Metallic Flooring
Want an epoxy flooring installer that has a proven process and actually takes their time in order to meet your parameters and get the best results possible? You’ve found it in Epoxy Northwest. We have a meticulous process that gets the job done in just one day and never fails to meet our exacting standards.
Prepping the Floor
The installation begins with grinding 1/32nd of an inch off the floor. This allows small bumps for form, known as the profile, and acts as something our primer can stick to. Etching should never be used to prepare concrete for solid epoxy floors as it is ineffective.
Crack Repair
Before applying primer, we repair any cracks or divots in the concrete using an epoxy-based crack repair material.
Epoxy Water Vapor Barrier
After the prep is complete, it is time to prime. We will apply an Epoxy Water Vapor Barrier, which prevents moisture from entering and affecting the epoxy coating - it is extremely resistant to the presence of water vapor. You won’t find a tougher material than this water barrier primer.
Chips
While your primer is still wet, we broadcast chips of paint color into it. We’ll put more chips than the epoxy can hold in order to create a full-bodied, cohesive color. Then, we’ll scrape in three different directions to give the floor the proper profile.
Top Coat
For the final step, we apply the top coat. For the top coat, we use the toughest Polyaspartic coat on the market - Tabor Test, ASTM # 4060. It is chemical resistant and durable enough to last in your garage, basement, or business for many, many years.
